Cannes’ Marché du Film is the biggest event for the international film industry and a unique opportunity to further projects. This year it runs for ten days (from May 16 to 25, 2012) as part of the most important film festival in the world.

Latinofusion will land in Cannes with Expiration Date (Fecha de Caducidad) first feature by Mexican Director Kenya Márquez awarded at Morelia, Guadalajara and Miami; the international hit Juan of the Dead, Cuba’s horror comedy which has been sold to major territories since its debut in Toronto 2011. The 28th Chicago Latino Film Festival got underway with the largest rooster of movies in its long history,

According to Festival director Pepe Vargas this year’s event will bring such established figures as the Argentine Eliseo Subiela, Spaniards Ventura Pons and Montxo Armendariz, the Cuban Fernando Pérez and Mexicans Gustavo Loza and Maria Novaro into contact “with the new voices of the movies.”

Latinofusion will participate with 2 films: Expiration Date the first feature by Mexican Kenya Márquez and The Good Herbs by María Novaro.

The event which goes till April 26th, is organized by the International Latino Cultural Center and since 1993 the audience has voted for its favorite films in several categories.It is estimated that some 35,000 people will attend the projections and gala festivities during the three weeks of the event.

Kenya Marquez’ “Expiration Date” was invited to the First Feature Competition of The Panama International Film Festival (IFF Panama) which will take place from April 26 to May 2nd, sponsored by the Industry and Trade Ministry (MICI), Panama´s Turist Agency (ATP) and the Panama Film Commission, as well as by many private companies.

Also a highlight of this first edition of the Festival is the screening of “Juan of the Dead” at the IberoAmerican Panorama Section.

For one week, we will screen 50 films from around the world. The event is under the direction of Henk Van Der Kolk – founder of Toronto Film Festival-, Panama director Pituka Ortega Heilbron, reknown international programmer Diana Sánchez.

Latinofusión has been always particulary tuned with Miami´s Audience. After the huge success of Personal Belongings, by the director Alejandro Brugues (Juan of the Dead), in 2009, the Festival’s Audience Award went to Latinofusión’s “Nora’s Will,” by the Mexican director Mariana Chenillo. This year’s MIFF audience elected Juan of the Dead as the most popular film at the 2012 edition of the festival. Another production represented by Latinofusion -Expiration Date- by the Mexican Kenya Marquez won the Opera Prima Lexus Grand Jury Prize.

This is the fourth Audience Award for Juan of the Dead (fifth if you consider the Audience Award Runner up at Austin. (others are Leeds, Havana, Fantasporto and now Miami)

Juan of the Dead has been an underground favorite among horror- and zombie-film fans since it premiered last September at the Toronto International Film Festival. Winning praise for its offbeat humor and deft manipulation of the horror genre—especially as a satirical commentary on contemporary Cuban life.

During its most recent presentation at Miami International Film Festival, the film was considered the hottest ticket of the festival, where it sold out its initial 1,700-seat screening weeks in advance

The film now has a U.S. distributor, Outsider Pictures, and will open in theaters later this year. For those who missed the festival screenings, starting next March 13, it will be have its theatrical debut in Miami´s Tower Cinema, in Little Havana.

Expiration Date won an Audience Award at its debut in Morelia, as well as Special Mention by the Official Jury.

Beside the Audience Award, the film won the Best Screenplay and Alexis Diaz de Villegas (Juan) also received the Best Actor Award.

Juan of the Dead and Expiration Date will have Special Gala Presentations during during the upcoming 27 Guadalajara Film Festival.

The Gala for Juan of the Dead will be on March 2nd, at 9 PM at the Diana Theater, while the Gala for Expiration Date will be hosted on March 7th, at 9 PM at Diana Theater.

Bothe directors, Alejandro Brugués and Kenya Márquez will be present.

Also at the Guadalajara Fest, Latinofusion will grant a Distribution Award for the Films in Progress section of the Festival, Guadalajara Construye. The 2012 Latinofusion Award is sponsored by SOFIA FILMS (México) and HABANERO FILMES (Brazil).

During the upcoming 27 Guadalajara Film Festival, Latinofusion will grant a Distribution Award for the Films in Progress section of the Festival, which takes place from March 2 to 10. The Latinofusion Award consists of a 10 thousand dollars advance for the International Representation Rights of the winner project. films

Guadalajara Construye was created in order to facilitate the completion of Latin-America feature films, which once filmed find difficulties during their post-production stage and later on being while trying to guarantee theatrical release..

The presentation of the films will be on March 6th and 7th.
